The Harbaugh brothers lead their respective squads into the Bayou looking to claim their first Super Bowl title as a head coach. A lot has been said about how this game, more than any other in recent memory, is extremely hard to predict. I agree that this Super Bowl looks to be very tight, on paper, but not any more difficult to predict than any of the recent Super Bowls. However, what I will say is how this game features some of the more unpredictable players ever to square off in a Super Bowl. Take last year's game, for example. Obviously, not many people had a firm idea of who was going to win last year's Super Bowl between the Patriots and Giants. But, we did have an idea of what to expect from both teams. We knew that the Patriots would need to win by having Tom Brady pick apart the Giants defense and we knew that the Giants would need to get the best from their stellar pass rush in order to disrupt the rhythm of the Patriots offense. While we had a rough idea of what to expect from last year's
Super Bowl, does anyone have any idea how this one is going to play out on Sunday? Well, I don't have that much more of an idea than anyone else, but I will give you my thoughts. I do not see Colin Kapernick running around like he did against Green Bay in the Divisonal Round. Baltimore's defense is tougher than both Green Bay and Atlanta and their physical nature will not allow Kaepernick to run around with consistent success. Even though I believe Colin Kapernick will not run the ball very well himself, the 49ers offensive line will outplay Baltimore's defensive line, allowing Frank Gore to top 100 yards rushing. To counter the 49ers, Baltimore's passing attack will have success against San Francisco's defense. Even though San Francisco clamped down against Atlanta, Matt Ryan was able to have success finding Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez for most of the afternoon. Joe Flacco is capable of locating his plethora of targets against the 49ers defense that can not get after the quarterback as well of late after Aldon Smith injured his triceps a month and a half ago. My concluding thought on the game has to do with the Ravens motivation. We all know this is the last stand for Ray Lewis, but will the Ravens legendary defense featuring Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs ever play in a bigger game than this? The Raven's greats know what's at stake. Baltimore out duels San Francisco to win Super Bowl XLVII.
